After any bloated hype comes the wake of a popular backlash. It's a turn of events that's all too familiar with WAP. Half of me isn't at all disappointed, having endured marketing campaigns that promised WAP would allow us to view the Internet in color at fantastic speeds in futuristic settings. This reaction to WAP - or more correctly to mobile Internet - was inevitable: buggy phones and even buggier gateways, no compliance to a standard (if you take WAP as the standard, it's equally viable to argue there is no standard), and the aforementioned bloated expectations of the technology.
